DJ WICKED
For the people not knowing, tell me a little about your history and how you got started DJing etc.
I was first turned on to DJing in the late 80s, Early 90s after hearing the likes of DJ's Aladin, Cash Money, DJ Miz, Joe Cooley, and all of those old school cats who were really making noise and innovating and taking shit to the next level back in the day. When I first heard the sounds they were making with the records, I was like "Damn, I want to do that too!". Around that same time, I ended hooking up with my boy DJ Y-Roc, and I bought my first pair of 1200s from him. I think I ended up trading him this little 25 caliber pistol and a couple hundred bucks in exchange for the tables. Ha ha..... So anyway, that's how that happenned.....and from that point on it's just been on and crackin'.

What is Just Plain Terror?
Well, the phrase "Just Plain Terror" is actually a lyric from an old song called "Gangster of Hip Hop" which was written by the old school East coast rap verteran named Just-Ice. If you don't know who Just-Ice is, he was an affilliate of KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions back in the day, and he was known for being on some real hardcore type rap shit. He had this gruff sort of grimey voice, and his delivery was very commanding. Everything he said had so much impact behind it. Anyway, he had this one line where he says...."To a sucka Emcee, I'm Just Plain Terror", and when I first heard him say that shit, I thought that it would be a dope name for a crew or a CD or an album or something. Plus the phrase just sounds sort of dark and eerie, and that's the kind of shit that I'm on, so that's why I chose to use it. So anyway, that's where the actual phrase "Just Plain Terror" came from. As far as the whole concept behind Just Plain Terror goes.... I think that over the years it has developed into something much more than just a cool catchy little phrase. I mean, as far as the core group of individuals that I'm associated with are concerned, for us, the whole meaning behind "Just Plain Terror" has almost developed itself into a small movement of sorts. You see, we have all dedicated huge portions of our lives to HipHop in one form or another, and we all share very similar beliefs in regard to the state that hip hop culture is in today. Each one of us are more than willing to take a 'by any means necessary' approach at preserving it and doing whatever it takes to keep the culture true and pure, and to make sure that it maintains it's authenticity. It's almost as if we have no other choice other than to become these "Urban Terrorists" per say, that are on a mission to make sure that the culture we love and work so hard for is not corrupted, exploited and contaminated, as it seems that nobody else is going to take the initiative to step up and fight for the cause. So that's sort of the general concept behind the whole Just Plain Terror "movement". And whether you agree with it or not, the fact of the matter is that it's here to stay.

People say there's a signature sound to the music you play, can you describe that for us?
The type music I play can be pretty hard to classify. I suppose it all depends on what type of mood I'm in at that particular moment. Most people might just classify my sound as "underground" or "old school hip hop", but really, it's much more than that. I mean, I personally love the dark hard-core shit you know. Hard beats, hard rhymes....just some boom-bap headcrack shit. That's usually the type of shit that I'm feeling. But honestly, I can go all over the board man, there's nothing limiting me. I'll dip into all genres of music, and no matter what, I'm still gonna rock it! There's too much music out there to limit yourself to just one type. You have to be more open minded than that......except when it comes to some fake ass jiggy shit of course. I'm not really fucking with any of that bullshit. That shit is way too watered down, and way too catered at the mindless sheep and the brainwashed robot "hip hop" fans. You see, any time that money and profit are the main source of motivation behind your music, it tends to lose all of it's soul and all of it's feeling. So yeah, I'm not really fucking with any jiggy shit. Not that I couldn't take it, flip it and straight rock it for large masses of teenage girls and ignorant wannabe gangsters, but that music is so disgustingly materialistic that I can't fuck with it.

Do you have any good stories of a show or party that didn't go according to plan or something funny or unusual that happenned.
Sheeeit, I have so many stories I could tell about crazy shit that's happened to me while Dj'ing. One of the most recent times was just this past New Years Eve when I had to step from behind the tables and straight up knock this motherfucker out that was tryin' to scrap with one of my homeboys. Talk about bringing in 2004 with a BANG! God damn! I didn't think I'd be able to DJ for the rest of the night my hand was so swollen. But it all worked out. So what if my flare scratches weren't as clean as they could have been for the rest of the night....shit, my hand hurt! It's all good though, he got his...haha. Another standout moment I can remember was from way back in the early 90's when I first started Dj'ing. One of my boys asked me if I wanted to DJ at his older brothers house party. Of course I was all eager and shit, so I was like "hell yeah I wanna do it"! Come to find out his older brother was a member of the Crips and everyone at the party was straight banged out. They were all wearing blue dickies and blue Chuck Taylors and shit, and I distinctly remember this one cat that had long ass braids with little blue rubberbands on them. The shit was crazy. I remember thinking to myself, "What in the hell did this cat get me into"? Anyway, at one point during the night, I don't know what I was thinking, but for some reason I decided to play this song called "Piru Love", which was a Bloods gang anthem at the time, and uhh, let's just say that it didn't really go over too well with the people at the party. I remember the dude with the braids rushed the turntables and told me that if I didn't stop playing the song that he was going to take my turntables right there on the spot. Needless to say, I went ahead and mixed into the next song with the quickness and somehow made it out alive to tell the story.

What is your opinion of the relationship between Hip Hop and the internet?
The internet is definitely an essential tool when it comes to hip hop. Technology these days baffles me sometimes. I mean, without the internet we wouldn't have dope Hip Hop sites like superhappywax.com right? Then what would we do? Haha. But yeah, the relationship between Hip Hop and the internet is definitely an important one. It's amazing really. Not only does it allow you the opportunity to network with other artists and gain access to music from all over the globe, but it's also a great place to promote your own music and to get yourself heard by people across the world that might not ever hear about you otherwise. So yeah, the relationship between Hip Hop and the internet is a crucial one. Plus you can go on hiphop message boards and talk shit about people, and they can bag on you because you still live at your moms house, and then you can bag on them because their girlfriend looks like a 13 year old boy with Down Syndrome. Hahaha!

I hear you did the scratching on the upcoming Greyskul (Onry Ozzborn and JFK) Project, how did that come about?
Well, I've known Onry and JFK for some time now. They are super sick Emcees! I want to give a shout out to those guys, and to all of Oldominion for that matter. They're a super-group of talented individuals. And their definitely reppin' the Northwest. Anyway, I've done some work in the past with Sleep and Josh Martinez on their "Chicharones" album, and I think Onry and JFK heard it and liked what I did on it, so one day they called me up and were like "Hey, would you be down to come up to Seattle and lace our CD with some cuts"....and of course I was down! It was my pleasure. So that's how that happened. I went up and did the cuts for that album and it went really good. Me, Onry and JFK are all on some similar shit. We think a lot alike, we're into the same types of music and we share a lot of the same crazy ideas and what not, so it was a real fun project to get to work with them on. I'm super excited for them too because I hear that their new album is coming out on the Rhymesayers Entertainment Label, so that's definitely something to be proud of! Watch for that new Greyskul shit this summer!

Tell us about the new mix CD "Got Milf?"
The "Got Milf? CD is sort of a dedication and a tribute to all the hot moms out there. It's a little something they can listen to in their minivans while their kids are screaming in the back seat on the way to soccer practice. It truly is a collection of guilty pleasures that you'll hate to love. It's all those songs that you're too embarassed to tell your friends that you listen to, but you know damn well that you when you're all by yourself, you're listening to'em on full blast! So that's basically what the CD is all about. It's a collection of songs ranging everywhere from 80's classics to 90's pop stuff. There's lots of corny stuff on there, lots of goofy stuff I tell ya. It's funny shit though. The whole project is comedy for sure. It's definately on the lighter side of things in comparison to what I'm typically known for, which is usually more on the dark and serious side of things. But with this project I wanted to totally come at it from a whole different angle and do something more upbeat and more silly....something fun ya know? Anyway, it's a full hour and twenty minutes of all these wacky songs, all blended, remixed, juggled and scratched in the fashion of a turntablist, so it still sort of has that flavor and feel of a hip hop mix cd, when in reality, there's not a whole lot of hip hop to this cd whatsoever. It's just a fun project, and if nothing else, it will give you a good laugh. Anyway, I'm tired of explaining it, so just go pick up a copy and check it out for yourself.... or if you're lucky like Belly at SuperHappyWax, I might just give you a copy for free!

What's coming up in the near future for you?
This summer is gonna be a busy one indeed! I'm really gonna be focusing on pushing this new "Got Milf?" CD. I want it to kind of be like the Summer anthem CD. You know, some shit you can listen to at all the parties and BBQs and all that good shit. So, I'll be pushing that all Summer long. As far as gigs and shows are concerned this Summer, as you may already know, we're going to be starting up the weekly Wednesday night Culture Shock hiphop parties again, and we have an all new location in store for that which should be happening really soon here in the next couple of weeks. Plus this new Summer series of Culture Shock parties will now feature the sounds of the "Style Molesters" (The DJ duo consisting of Dj Wels and Myself) rockin' 4 turntables every Wednesday night all summer long....so make sure you come and check it out this Summer! Also, I'm still holding down residency for the weekly Saturday night HipHop parties at Momos which have been absolutely off the hook lately, so you already know that gig will be crackin' all Summer long! As far as traveling plans go this summer, I'll be heading to California next week to play a date in Santa Barbara and a date in L.A. with DJ Day and DJ Magneto of the Innernational crew. And then towards the end of Summer it looks like I'll be heading to Taiwan to do a couple dates there as well, so I'm pretty excited about that. Oh, and I can't forget about the monthly party called "Ghett Down" that me and DJ Wels do together at this dope ass club called 'The Grove' down in Bend, Oregon. I'm telling you, these parties go off like no other! It's some serious panty dropping, wig splitting action! If there was only one party that you could go to all Summer long, this would be it! They don't fuck around down in Bend when it comes to partying, they go all out! So anyway, as far as gigs and shows go this Summer, there's tons of exciting stuff lined up. But if I'm really lucky, I might be able to sneak in a little vacation down to Mexico this Summer!

Any shout outs or fuck yous to be inserted here.
I have so many shout outs I could seriously go on for days and days, but I'm not gonna go there because I don't want to accidentally forget somebody and then have them try to slit my throat one night while I'm DJ'ing somewhere....although as fun as that sounds, I don't think I wanna go there... Haha. As far as the "Fuck yous" go, man, that list is probably twice as long as the shout out list!...haha Naw, seriously though, it's like this... If you're out there keeping it true, then much respect to you. But if you're out there fronting, faking the funk, and exploiting the Hip Hop culture, then yeah...Fuck You straight up! And trust me, there are a couple of you motherfuckers out there and we're watching you very closely, believe that! I don't even need to get into the details of naming names because it's no secret...these individuals know who they are and everybody else knows who they are too. And if any of those cats wanna have beef with me over it, then so be it. You can step up and get dealt with....trust me, I'm not a hard person to find. But again, as far as naming a list of people that probably deserve a nice big "Fuck You"... I'm not gonna do that, because well, quite honestly, I don't want to accidentally leave anyone off of that list either!
